Syrian Refugee Crisis

Refugee Crisis in Europe Prompts Western Engagement in Syria

This article discusses the Syrian Refugee Crisis occurring and the Western world's involvement during it. Syria has a huge war right now and many are attempting to escape by going to upwards towards Europe. There is a lot of conflict surrounding whether specifically America should let these refugees in.

I personally think it is okay to let the refugees come into America. America should stand for freedom since everyone who immigrated here since the beginning was searching for personal freedom. It is also a mix of many cultures and diversities and should be accepting of everyone. I hope Syria finds peace soon.

Mass Teen Killed in Shooting in Israel.

Mass. teen among 5 killed in Tel Aviv, West Bank attacks

This article discusses an eighteen year old named Ezra Schwartz dying in a terrorist attack in Israel. He lived in Sharon, Massachusetts and decided to take a gap year to spend it in Israel. He was delivering food to Israeli troops before he was killed. There were four other people killed.

Having met Ezra a few times, this really hit me, not only about his death but the death of anyone in Israel. It always amazes me that people want to hurt people, for non important reasons. I hope that there will be more peace in this world and that people will be treat others kindly.

Oregon Shooter Dead after College Rampage

"Oregon Shooting: Dead after College Rampage"

By: Dana Ford and Ed Payne, CNN

This article discusses the Oregon shooter and how a man opened fire at Oregon's Umpqua Community College and killed ten people and wounded seven. A father of a victim claims that the gunman was after Christians specifically and asked the people in the class to stand up if they were Christian and killed them all. The investigation took place and they identified the shooter as a 26 year old named Chris Harper Mercer.

I think it is absolutely ridiculous that there was another mass shooting in America. We have already had so many mass shootings in the past years and we should have stricter regulations on gun control so this does not happen again. Also, we need a better mental health system. A lot of these shooters have mental health problems and in this country, we tend to just ignore them instead of helping these people. It sickens me that this has happened yet again and I feel that America needs to step up their again and find a solution to this problem we are having.

Carson Explains Concerns with Muslim President

"Ben Carson Again Explains Concerns with Muslim President"

By: Eric Bradner, CNN

This article discusses how Republican candidate, Ben Carson, earlier stated that he "would not advocate that we put a Muslim in charge of this nation". The article focuses on how he feels about this now and he has essentially apologized for what he has said. But he also did state that he feels that you cannot put the Constitution over the Islamic religion based off everything the religion entails.

I chose this article because I feel that it is absolutely crazy that one would say this. So far, I have followed a lot of what is going on politically and have watched the Republican debates. I feel that America should be a country where everyone should feel free to practice their own religion, follow their own beliefs etc. and not be discriminated for doing so. If a Muslim decides to run for president and majority of the country votes for him or her, they should be allowed to be president. The article also proves that in general, once you say something, you cannot take it back, and although Carson has tried to state things to make his one claim okay, no one will forget that he did say it.

Iran's Supreme Leader States There Will Be No Israel in 25 Years

Iran's Supreme Leader: There Will Be No Such Thing as Israel in 25 Years

By: Eliott C. McLaughlin, CNN

This article discusses the Iran Nuclear Deal and how Iran's supreme leader, the Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, stated in a speech this week in Tehran, that Israel will not exist in 25 years. This issue was brought up when Obama proposed the agreement that states that Iran will cut its uranium stockpiles and limit uranium enrichment in exchange for the West lifting sanctions against the Iranian Republic. Obama has faced a lot of criticism on this deal especially from Republicans who state it is too relaxed on Iran.

I chose this article because I have been following the news on the Nuclear Deal for a little while now. I am very in between when it comes to this issue because I have many family members that live in Israel and it scares me to think that Iran might abuse the deal and try to hurt my family and everyone living in Israel. Plus, most Israelis are opposed to this deal due to the fact that Israel has enemies all around them and America is considered its main ally. But yet, I also think Iran deserves the right to use nuclear technology peacefully, just like all other countries have the right to. It is really hard for me to have a clear opinion because I see how both parties view the deal.
